Felix doesn't move an inch once the ropes are off. "Get up." you tell him, but he does nothing. "It's not that bad, is it? I'm taking you to Mr. Olsen so you get, I don't know, an hour longer to live? Cheer up." \n\n"Please kill me," he says.\n\n"I understand you're in pain and probably a little bit depressed at this whole situation Felix but I'm really gonna need you to come get in the truck now." you say, turning back to the bench, putting the knife in the sink.\n\nThat's when Felix moves, jumping out of his seat and charging out the door. You spin around and give chase, just spotting him crashing down the hall, leaving blood dripping on the carpet and smudged against the walls. He turns a corner and you run after him, moving past doorways and paintings, coming to the front door. \n\nHe's just about to open it when you crash into him, pinning him against the door so it stays closed. "God dammit, I knew you'd be trouble!" you say with a laugh. \n\n"Let go of me!" he demands.\n\n[["Careful of your leg"|Leg]]
Both of you crash to the ground at the same time. You stretch your arms out, cushioning the fall, but the impact still knocks the wind out of you.\n\nHe flies backward, hitting the ground with an almighty thud. The back of his head cracks against the floorboards. He lies still.\n\nYou stare up at the roof. Dust and spiderwebs stare back at you. You try to regain your breath, the blood pounding in your ears, pain courses through your body with the slightest movement.\n\nYour legs wobble when you stand up. You walk slowly over to the target to see if he's dead. No. He still breathes.\n\n[["That went well"|Have]]
Bang. He's dead before he even sees you move. \n\nFinally you've killed him. After all the trouble. What a dick. You walk over to the chest and lay your eyes on the two million dollars. All the notes stacked up neatly. This is probably the luckiest day of your life.\n\nYou grab the shovel from the ground. Felix was a bad man but you've had fun today. It would be best to bury him and forget about Olsen. You said you would. Besides, you've got two million dollars now. You can do whatever you want with that.\n\nThe hot sun beats down on your back as you dig Felix's grave. Your muscles ache but you're too happy about the money to notice. Eventually the hole is big enough and you drop Felix inside, filling the dirt back in. Olsen will be furious when he sees the corpse instead of the money. You grab the chest and lift it onto your shoulder. It's not as heavy as you thought. You begin walking back to your truck. \n\nBest hunt you've ever had.
"You... you want to duel?" Felix asks, surprised.\n\n"Winner takes all. C'mon, we've been going at each other all day. Let's end this fairly." you say with a smile.\n\n"Or I could just shoot you now and be done with it."\n\n"Tell you what - if I win, I won't take your body to Olsen. I'll bury you properly, take the money and leave. The old man will never get closure that way."\n\nFelix's expressions brightens. He's actually pleased with the proposal. "Y'know, I like that. Bit of dignity. Bit of honour. A man don't back down from a duel."\n\n"It feels right, don't it?"\n\n"I accept your challenge." He says, sliding the pistol down through his belt and stepping out from behind the chest.\n\n[[You take a few steps to the right, until the sun is at your back|Back]]\n\n[[You shoot Felix right in the eye|Eye]]
It's small but it will do. You cut your fingers as you grab it. Still on your hands and knees, the target stomps down on your back, glass crunches underneath you. \n\nHe lifts his foot and kicks you in the ribs, once, twice, then you roll out of the way before a third kick breaks your bones. You try to lift yourself but your arms shake weakly. \n\nThe target knocks the light bulb as he comes toward you and the room appears to flash, flickering in and out of blackness. You can't make him out from the shadows on the walls, but with all your strength you lift yourself to your knees, keeping hold of the shard in your hand.\n\n[[You let out a yell, and throw yourself through the dark|Dark]]\n\n
"We could be here for a while if it ain't." says Felix. "So how come you're working for Olsen anyway?"\n\n"Because he pays well." you respond plainly.\n\n"So that's it? You don't care that I murdered my future wife and her best friend?" he asks. You don't say anything, but he presses, "You just want the money? Is that why you're ditching the contract now for this money here, 'cause it's all the same to you?"\n\nYou fire a shot at the ground by Felix's feet. He jumps from the noise, looking over to you. "I enjoy this job, because I get to take down scum like you. Pathetic animals with twisted minds who deserve way worse than a bullet to their head. Sure, I want that money, I'd be crazy if I didn't. But don't think for a second that you're alive for any other reason than using that shovel right now. Keep digging."\n\n"No need," says Felix, taking a few steps backward and pointing down, "I think I found it."\n\n[[Look in the hole|Hole]]\n\n
He spins and draws a pistol, aiming it straight at your chest. He takes loud, quick breaths. His dark eyes flash with fear. You stop moving forward, but you don't lift your hands.\n\n[["Put the gun down, partner"|Partner]]\n\n[["Your beard is longer in the picture"|Picture]]
The two of you stare at each other in silence. Time seems to slow down.\n\nThe sun will be set in an hour or so. Birds have come out to feed, you hear them singing in the distance. A soft breeze blows gently at your back, cooling the sweat on your neck. \n\nYou lick your dry lips and check your footing. Strong, even stance. You crouch a little, wiggling your fingers like they do in the movies. You're going to have to be quicker than you've ever been.\n\nYou take a deep breath, relaxing, imagining exactly how this is going to go down. Picturing it all in your mind. Felix is completely still. You won't wait to see him twitch. You'll move first. Your gun is already cocked, you made sure. A quick flick of the wrist and he'll be down. Less than a second. Just one shot. No need to waste bullets. You can do this.\n\n[[Shoot|Eye]]
A light bulb flickers, struggling to come back on in the small cellar. Shelves of wines and spirits stretch the length of the cold, damp room. Pressed against the wall, you watch the target pass you - dragging his feet across the floorboards, fumbling with the buttons on his coat, his dirty black hair falling into his eyes.\n\nYou take a quiet, deep breath, sizing him up. How to approach this one? You relax your shoulders, briefly flashing your teeth with a smirk. This one could be fun.\n\n[[Without a sound you slip behind him|Him]]\n\n[[You step forward slowly, "Howdy"|Howdy]]
It's empty except for ash. The flames have died out now, the money all gone. Felix must've figured you would still kill him for the two hundred thousand. Now you won't be getting anything. \n\nYou need to disappear. You need to take the chest, take Felix's body, hide them both somewhere Olsen will never find them and disappear. Make the old man think Felix took it and left. Make him think you were never involved.\n\nYou take the lighter and set fire to Felix's clothes. When his body has burnt you'll put it in the chest and bury them on the other side of the ranch. Then you'll drive back into town, get your belongings and leave. You'll go North, far away.\n\nThe flames start to cover Felix's body. The stench is hard to bear but you can't leave, you can't even look away. You stare at the man who has beaten you. He may be dead but he won. He knew you'd still kill him. He had you all figured out... Or did he? Suddenly you have a thought.\n\nYou could kill Olsen.
Before you realise it Felix has pulled a revolver out from the chest. He stands, pointing it right at your heart.\n\n"Fuck." you say.\n\n"I'm not letting you kill me and take it all for yourself." he says.\n\n"Olsen would kill me if I did tha-"\n\n"Shut up, shut the hell up!" Felix cuts you off. "How would Olsen find out huh? I'm not an idiot."\n\n"Fooled me."\n\n"The money is mine." Felix cocks the hammer back.\n\n[["Why don't we settle this the old fashioned way?"|Way]]\n\n[[You unholster your pistol and dive to the ground|Ground]]
The shovel hits something hard. \n\n"I think I got it..." says Felix. He drops onto his knees, jabbing the shovel around in the hole. He slams it down hard and you hear a metallic snapping noise. "It's in a wooden chest." he says. He must've just broken the lock.\n\nYour heart races as you watch on. There's two million in there and it's yours. He reaches his arms down into the hole and struggles to lift the chest out. A briefcase would've been easier. In an instant he's opened the lid, his jaw dropping as he gazes inside. He wasn't lying.\n\n[[You stand there in shock|Shock]]
"What picture?" the target asks, but you know he knows exactly what you mean.\n\n"The picture in the contract." you say slowly, dismissivly, "I'm gonna be honest with you - I've been waiting down here to kill you. But I thought maybe we could have a drink first?"\n\nThe target looks at you incredulously. You always enjoy the mind-games. "Who are you? God dammit, I knew they'd send someone after me."\n\nHe's a big man, but he's frightened. You don't answer him, you're busy thinking of a plan.\n\n"Well hell, I guess I'll just shoot you right here." the target says, starting to laugh.\n\n[["C'mon, let's have that drink"|Tighter]]
He doesn't answer but you get up and and open the fridge. There's barely anything in there but the ham and cheese slices, a milk carton and a bit of lettuce. "I didn't have lettuce in mine but I'll put some in yours." you tell him.\n\nYou take the ingredients over to the bench and quickly slap them inbetween two bits of bread sliced from the loaf on the counter. Felix sits quietly, probably trying to tug his way out of the ropes.\n\nYou come back to the table with his sandwich and place it down in front of him. He glares at you. Whether he ignores it or tries to eat it without his hands, it will end in the same result - humiliation.\n\n[["Don't you want it?"|Ask]]
You unholster the pistol and shoot Felix again in the other leg. He doesn't cry out this time, just drops into a ball on the floor. You grab his arms and drag him out of the way so you can open the front door. "No, stop." he says over and over as you drag him outside, along the porch, down the steps and across the gravel to your truck.\n\nYou open the passenger door and lift Felix inside. The seat is covered in dirty blankets. "Feel free to bleed on them, but don't put grubby fingers on the windows," you say, putting his seatbelt on and shutting his door. You walk around and get in on the driver's side, "Oh and your door is staying locked, obviously."\n\nYou pause for a moment, wondering if maybe you should go look for that buried money. Maybe he was telling the truth? You twist the keys and the engine roars to life. The wheels flick gravel in the air briefly before getting traction and you start moving forward. Perhaps if Olsen mentions the money then you'll come back.\n\nFelix just sits silently, resigned to his fate. You keep the pistol pointed at him but he's too lost in thought to notice, too scared of what Mr. Olsen plans to do with him. Either that or losing blood too fast. You press down on the accelerator.\n\nThat five hundred thousand is yours.
"Felix my friend, I have a dilemma. See, I get paid more if I bring you in alive, but I've a feeling you're not gonna come quietly and I'd really like to get a move on."\n\nFelix snarls at you, so you swing your legs off the table, pick up the gun, lean forward and point it in his face. \n\n"It's up to you," he says disgustedly, "shoot me now or first chance I get to put a bullet in you, be damn sure I'm gonna take it."\n\nYou cock the pistol, but you pause. He's tied up pretty good, the truck is outside ready to go, it's only fifteen minutes into town and the contract states you'll get five-hundred-thousand dollars. You could sure use it. \n\nFelix stares at you lazily, you wonder what he wants; either he dies by your hand or by Olsen's. Shooting him now would be a kindness, and more fun for you.\n\n[[Kill Felix McGill|McGill]]\n\n[[Take him alive|McGill]]
You slide across the floorboards and roll to your knees as quick as you can. Your vision clears – the target is aiming his pistol at you. Blood is pouring down his face but he’s smiling now, he’s got you. The room has gone dead silent. You're aware of the throbbing in your stomach. He can really hit hard. \n\n[[You ignore the pain as you stand|Stand]]\n\n[[You scan the floor for a shard of glass|Floor]]
He moves fast out of the way. You just manage to slice down his arm. Blood begins to stream from the wound, but it only enrages him. \n\nHe yells as he swings punches again and again. You do your best to steer clear, cutting him when you get the chance. His thigh, his chest. A few of his punches connect, jarring you, weakening you. You feel youself slowing down. More and more his fists finds their mark. \n\nYour nose is bloody, your breathing heavy. He comes at you again. You need to end this now.\n\n[[You jump, kicking both your feet into his ribs with all your strength|Strength]]
You put one in your mouth and take out a lighter. As soon as it sparks up with a metallic click, you throw it at the target’s feet, igniting the alcohol pooled around him. He screams and you dash toward him, hammering your fist straight into his temple. He crashes to the floor, limp. Immediately you throw your coat on the flames before they get out of control, reducing their crackling sounds to a weak hiss.\n\n[[You look around at the mess you've made|Have]]\n
The target looks you dead in the eye. You've only got one chance to make this work. You keep your hand in your pocket, rummaging round. His eyes move to your pocket.\n\nSimple misdirection. You subtely tread on the heel of your boot, working your right foot loose, hanging it limp inside the boot leg. \n\nHis curiosty finally wavers, "Enough, you ain't got nothing in there."\n\n"Guess there's no fooling you." You pull your hand out, empty. Then you kick your right leg out, flinging the boot straight toward the target. He sheilds his face, ducks. The boot hits his shoulder. He fires a shot wide above your head. \n\nYou dash forward, grabbing the pistol and holding it away from you. "No!" he cries. You draw your fist back, then send one strong punch straight into his temple. He crumples to the floor. \n\nYou stand for a moment, chuckling. \n\n[[Put your boot back on|Have]]
"The two million belongs to Olsen." \n\nOnce again you're shocked. This was meant to be a simple game of fetch, now Felix has you caught up in something much larger. Olsen's paying five hundred thousand for a man's head, the man plans to steal two million from Olsen. How does it all fit together?\n\n"This is his ranch, partner. It's his money. His daughter told me all about it." Felix continues gleefully, "Well I didn't wanna share it with her did I? I had it all worked out, just didn't expect you'd be after me so soon."\n\nIt makes sense now. That's how Olsen knew Felix would be here. "And of course, if I help you steal the money and Olsen finds out, his next bounty will be on my head." you say, realising Felix's proposal.\n\n"Exactly," Felix grins, "So you won't kill me, and you won't never see Olsen again. You and I will just disappear. What do ya say?"\n\nYou pause. It's a lot to consider. Felix will try to kill you no doubt. You need a plan. Think.\n\n[["I say you've got yourself a deal"|Yes]]
You stand up.\n\n"Wait..." Felix mumbles, just loud enough for you to hear. You freeze intently. "Wait," he says again, "you wanna know why I came to this ranch?" \n\nHe looks down at his feet. He's just stalling of course, but you humour him. A few more minutes won't matter. A dead man's last words are important to him. \n\nFelix slowly lifts his head and looks you right in the eyes... [["There's two million dollars buried on this property"|Property]]\n\n
Felix ignores it. You re-take your seat, "Alright, well here's the facts; you killed Annie Olsen and Martha Chambers, your own fiance and her closest friend. Now Mr. Olsen wants you dead, he put a price on your head, and here I am. So, I can kill you myself, or I can bring you to him so he can do it. What do you reckon?"\n\n"I reckon you and Olsen can go fuck yourselves," Felix responds, "I ain't leaving this ranch with you. I'm getting outta Harlingen forever."\n\n"Well, no," you roll your eyes, "you're all tied up, Felix. I'm bringing you back into town no matter what. This was a damn easy contract." You look out the window at the peaceful green fields. "I can't believe you murdered your own fiance. Olsen nearly came after you himself."\n\n"Oh I bet he did." says Felix, flashing a smile.\n\n[[You wipe the crumbs of the sandwich off your lap|Relaxed]]\n\n
The top of a chest peaks through the brown dirt. "Lift it out," you tell Felix, "open it."\n\nHe digs around the chest until it's uncovered, getting down on his knees to lift it out of the hole. You're heart begins to race with excitement. There's two million dollars in there and it's yours. You keep your mouth shut but you laugh inside. Does Felix really think you're going to let him go?\n\nThe chest has a padlock on it. Felix lifts the shovel and slams it down on the lock, snapping it clean off. He lifts the lid of the chest, and his eyes go wide with joy. He wasn't lying.\n\n[[You stand there in shock|Shock]]
The pistol jams.\n\nYou launch yourself at him, striking the gun from his hand which clatters and slides into the corner of the room. He throws a punch, skimming across your jaw. You grab his hair and the scruff of his shirt, pulling your knee up hard into his gut. But you're off balance - he throws you backward against the wall. Pain shoots down your spine. He comes toward you again. You draw a knife from your belt.\n\nHis sees the blade but keeps on coming. You raise your hand to stab, but instead kick out at his knee. You hear his kneecap crunch. He stops advancing. You quickly jump out to the side, raising your arm again, focussing on finding the perfect spot for the kill. Time seems to slow down. It's too easy.\n\n[[You hold the knife to his throat|Throat]]\n\n[[You plunge the knife into his back|Dark]]
He grunts as you grab him, wrapping your arm tight around his neck. His stench fills your nostrils - clearly he hasn't washed while he's holed-up here. Frightened, choking, he pulls and shakes wildly and you try to keep your grip. He's stronger than you thought. \n\n[[You squeeze tighter|Tighter]]\n\n[[You feel for a gun in his coat|Coat]]
You reach for a bottle on the shelf next to you, grip the neck of a scotch and swing it hard into the side of his head. He screams as it shatters, the glass sprinkling all over the floor, crunching under his kicking boots. You hold the scruff of his shirt while pinning his arm down. Suddenly he slams you into the shelf, bottles fall and break everywhere. You feel the cold liquid soaking your back.\n\n[[You try to pull him down|Loosens]]
Felix's head snaps back as the shot rings out. Blood sprays up the wall behind him then begins to run slowly to the floor. You take a knife from the bench and start to cut through the ropes binding Felix's lifeless body to the chair.\n\nFor a moment you consider going fifty yards south of the barn - maybe if you dug around enough you'd find the two million. But once Felix is free you just drag his body out of the house and throw it in the back of the truck, with nothing but a dusty blanket to hide it from view.\n\nYou climb into the front seat and wipe the sweat from your brow. Suddenly you become aware of an uncomfortable feeling, as if shooting Felix wasn't the right move. You glance into the rear-view mirror at his corpse. Even if he wasn't telling the truth, was there something larger going on here? Why did he kill his wife? Should you have handled things differently?\n\nYou twist the keys and the engine roars to life. The wheels flick gravel in the air briefly before getting traction. You drive forward, in no more than half an hour you'll be two hundred thousand dollars richer.\n\nThat's good enough for you.
The bullet flies straight through. He drops backwards, blood spurting out of the wound, dying instantly.\n\nTaking his body to Olsen would be no good now. You could lie to the old man but sooner or later he'd come for his money and it wouldn't be there. He'd know you were involved and he'd send more hunters after you. It'd only be over once you're dead.\n\nYou grab what remains of the cash and shove it in your pocket. Then you take the lighter and and set fire to Felix's clothes. You don't wait to watch him burn. You need to go.\n\nYou walk back from the barn to your truck, barely able to keep your thoughts together. Felix was smarter than you knew. He beat you. He's dead but he won. You climb into the front seat and wipe the sweat from your brow. \n\nYou twist the keys and the engine roars to life. The wheels flick dirt in the air briefly before getting traction. The truck drives forward. You need to get out of town, to leave everything and disappear. You don't know where you go but Harlingen is to the East. \n\nYou'll head West.
Your hand wraps around a pistol holstered at his chest. You pull it out and swing the butt of it down onto his forehead. You let go of him as he stumbles backwards, preparing to take aim, but he immediatelty regains his balance and launches himself at you.\n\nHis shoulder rams your chest hard, knocking the wind out of you. You stumble back into the shelves. Bottles of alcohol fall, crashing open loudly again and again on the hard floor, glass and liquid spraying across the room.\n\nThe pistol flies from your hand when he punches you in the gut. You can't breathe, you're so dizzy. He grabs you under your arms, your stomach drops as he lifts you off the ground. He growls, shaking you and tossing you back down onto the floor.\n\n[[You close your eyes, sheilding yourself from the broken glass|Reach]]
"Well, it's not mine. It's Olsen's. Just like this ranch is Olsen's. That's why I'm here, partner."\n\nWhat's he saying? Olsen put a bounty on his head, so now he's gonna steal Olsen's money? It would make sense that this is Olsen's ranch, how else did the old man know that Felix would be here...\n\nFelix waits patiently for you to figure things out. You take a deep, slow breath. "Annie Olsen told you about the money. Then you killed her so you could take it all for yourself."\n\n"You got it!" Felix grins, "I didn't even think about it. The second she told me it was here, I sliced her throat wide open."\n\nHe's trying to make you uncomfortable. It's a power play now. Stay in control. \n\n[[You reach over and grab his hair, slamming his face into the table|Table]]
Suddenly something feels very wrong. You've overlooked a variable, forgotten a part of the plan...\n\nWhat were you going to do? Knock Felix uncounscious when you had the money, cut out his tongue so he couldn't talk, take him to Olsen, get the five hundred thousand, put it with the two million and drive off, get outta town forever. That was it right? So what's the problem?\n\nFelix looks you right in the eyes.\n\n[["Wait, hold up, what're you doing?"|Doing]]\n\n[["Okay Felix, step away now..."|Away]]\n\n
Hamish Ikin
Felix looks at you, shocked. "Two million doll-"\n\nYou pull back the trigger and a bullet fires straight into his leg. He screams out, straining against the ropes, tears swelling in his red eyes.\n\n"You think I'm stupid Felix? You think I'm gonna trust you?" \n\n"Please!" he cries, "It's fifty yards south of the barn, I swear! We can dig it up and get out and nobody will know."\n\n"That's enough Felix. We're done here. Olsen's waiting with money I can trust. I don't wanna hear another word come out of your mouth."\n\nFelix's eyes go wide as he realises it's all over. Then he relaxes, every muscle appearing to go limp like a discarded rag-doll. He stares at the floor, bloody, bruised, still smelling like shit... And his wife lies in a cemetary now because of him. It's time this man got what he deserved. The room is silent.\n\n[[You grab a knife from the bench and begin to cut the ropes|Ropes]]\n\n[[You aim the pistol between his eyes, smile, and shoot|Shoot]]
"I can't exactly. We're just gonna have to dig around and find out." says Felix. \n\nYou wonder if he has something planned, if you've just walked into a trap. An hour ago you were trying to kill him, and he you. Now he seems unphased by it, like it never really happened. Like you're just two friends playing in the backyard. You have a gun pointed at him and he's smiling at you.\n\nYou throw the shovel to him. "I'm not digging. I'm too busy holding your life in my hands. You get started."\n\nFelix slams the shovel into the dirt awkwardly with his wrists still tied but he says nothing about it. He lifts the soil to the side and repeats. With each go he gets a better hang of it, and soon enough he's digging just as good as he could normally. The hole gets deeper, the pile of dirt gets higher. \n\nYou take a few steps back and holster your gun, there's nothing he can do to hurt you at this point. He just keeps digging. Hopefully he found the right spot.\n\n[[You let out a yawn|Yawn]]
Five minutes later you pull your truck up in the field beside Felix's body. You jump out of the driver's seat and grab it, lifting it and throwing it into the tray. You toss a dusty blanket over it to hide it from view. \n\nYou open the chest, laying your eyes on the two million dollars. All the notes stacked up neatly. This is probably the luckiest day of your life. You lift the chest and put it in the front passenger seat. Then you close the door and climb back behind the wheel.\n\nYou twist the keys and the engine roars to life. Soon you'll be at Olsen's place handing the corpse over for another two hundred thousand. Probably would be best to stop at home first and leave the chest. Wouldn't want Olsen to spot it. Then you can leave town before he realises what's happened. You're free to go anywhere.\n\nYou wonder if Felix knew there'd be a gun hidden in the chest and planned on killing you from the start. Olsen must've kept it there in case he would ever need it. Chances are the old man will ask you something about the chest.\n\nGood thing you're a natural liar.
“You alone?” the target asks you. His clothes are covered in mud. God he stinks. \n\n“Working alone, yes. But there’s others after you.” You lift yourself to your feet, leaning your hand against the back wall for support.\n\n“How much on my head?”\n\n“Five hundred thousand alive.”\n\n“You wasn’t trying to take me alive.”\n\nYou reach into your coat pocket. “Woah now”, he steps forward and cocks the pistol, “End of the line.” \n\n[[“Easy partner, it’s just a cigarette”|Cigarette]]\n\n[[“No shit murderer, thanks for the warning”|Warning]]\n
Olsen's Contract
Felix groans in pain. He coughs, blood spatters out onto the table.\n\n"You're lying to me, Felix!" you yell.\n\n"No! I'm-" You push the table forward, ramming into into his chest, nearly knocking his chair over. "Please!" he cries, "It's fifty yards south of the barn, I swear. We can dig it up and get out and nobody will know."\n\n"Olsen will know." \n\n"It'll be too late by the time he does. You could be anywhere! You'll have a million dollars. What's to stop you?"\n\nHe has a point. It's double what Olsen's planning on paying... "So we split the money, a million each, then I just let you go. Simple as that?"\n\n"Simple as that. You can do whatever you want after that, I don't care. What do ya say?" Felix's smug face is insulting. But better to let him feel he's winning. You have a plan. \n\n[["I say you've got yourself a deal"|Yes]]
He's too quick, ducking out from your arms. His fist slams into your face. Your eyes fill with water and you taste blood in your mouth. You thought this would be easy. He punches you again, this time in the stomach, keeling you over.\n\n[[You throw yourself sideways out of reach|Reach]]\n\n[[You feel for a shard of glass on the floor|Floor]]
...Two million dollars. Is he telling the truth? Or is he making it up, making you think there's something more important to do... What's his game? Is he going to bargain with you? His life for the money. Felix's face gives nothing away, you might have to untie him. But then what? A knife to the back probably. You check your watch again - it's time to go.\n\nYou play it cool and sit back down. "What was that, Felix? You mumbled and I couldn't quite-"\n\n"Two million. You heard me. It's right outside. With each go he gets a better hang of it, and soon enough he's digging just as good as he could normally. You watch as the hole gets deeper and the pile of dirt gets higher. \n\n[["This better be the right spot"|Spot]]\n\n[[You holster your gun and relax for a moment|Yawn]]
"You take a million, I take a million." Felix's voice is less husky than before. He's excited, he knows you're interested, "We can both get outta here. C'mon, it's double what Olsen's paying ya."\n\n"True. Or I could just take the two million and kill you. Better yet, I take the two million, then I take you to Olsen anyway for the five hundred thousand." You stand up again, "Yeah I like that idea. You're gonna show me where the money is and then we'll continue into town. Now hold still while I untie you from the chair."\n\n"No, no, that's not how this works. You think I didn't think you'd say that? Here's what we're gonna do. You're gonna untie me and I'll take you out to the money. Then we're gonna split up the cash and you're gonna let me go, before leaving this place yourself, and you wanna know why?"\n\n[["Please, reveal your master plan"|Plan]]
Before you realise it, Felix has taken a lighter from inside the chest and set the cash ablaze. \n\nYou scream out, "No!", charging forward to the chest. You kick Felix out of the way and look inside. The money is all there, hundred dollar bills stacked up neatly, now burning, disappearing before your eyes.\n\n[["Why?! What was the point of that?!"|That]]\n\n[["You're fucking dead, Felix!"|Dead]]\n\n
"You were just gonna kill me!" Felix screams, lying on the ground. "You were gonna take it all for yourself!"\n\nYou slam the lid of the chest back down, cutting off the oxygen to put out the flames. "I didn't know about it! If you had never mentioned the money I wouldn't have got any of it!"\n\n"And you would've taken me to Olsen and continued on living! Now your dead! Olsen's gonna come after you when he finds his money burnt to ashes! Now you're dead!" Felix starts laughing maniacally. \n\nThis was his plan all along. To set you up. You lift the lid back up and see the burnt cash. Little remains that can be used. Felix didn't care about saving himself. He just wanted to take you down with him.\n\n"You can't tell Olsen it was me." Felix says, lifting himself to his knees. "You can't tell him or he'll know we struck a deal."\n\n[[You unholster your pistol and shoot Felix through the neck|Neck]]
“A bounty hunter who forgets to bring their own gun?” he chuckles.\n\n“Yeah, well, I wasn’t planning on coming after you today,” you admit, “but there was nothing good on TV.”\n\nYou pull the contract out of your pocket: Felix McGill, two hundred thousand dead, five hundred thousand alive. The fight cut his face up pretty bad but he still looks like the picture. You fold the contract up and put it back in your pocket. Felix just stares at you.\n\n“Felix McGill, murdered Annie Olsen and Martha Chambers. Your own fiance and her best friend." you say, "Last seen in Harlingen." His eyes suddenly flash as though he's proud, pleased with himself.\n\n[["You’re not smart are you Felix?”|Felix?]]
Felix jumps at you, knocking you down to the ground. You both tumble around each other but Felix winds up on top, pinning your arms down with his knees. He smashes his bound fists into your face again and again, blood runs into your eyes and down the back of your throat.\n\nYou slam your knee into his back, knocking him off you. In a split second you jump on top of him, pull out your pistol and fire a bullet straight into Felix's stomach.\n\n"Why? Why did you burn it?" you say, barely louder than a whisper. Your head is pounding.\n\nFelix chuckles, despite his pain. "Olsen will know. Olsen will know we made a deal for his money. You're dead now too." He coughs. Then his eyes roll back, and he stops breathing.\n\nHe got you. You cannot take Felix's body back to Olsen now, or when he finds his money all gone he'll think it was you who did it.\n\n[[You go over to the chest|Chest]]
“Smarter than them two dead gals.” Felix spits.\n\n“But you hid in the closest ranch from Harlingen? I mean I feel like I just stepped out my front door and you were right there.” you can't help but let out a soft laugh.\n\n“How’d you know I was here anyway?”\n\n"Mr. Olsen had a feeling you'd hide here. There you go being dumb again, Felix. You killed Mr. Olsen's daughter of all people? Your bride to be?" \n\nFelix tugs against the rope. "He the one paying you?"\n\n"You bet he's the one paying me. He is screaming for your blood." You look out the window at the green fields before continuing, "I mean, you've met Mr. Olsen. You're not going to jail. Either I kill you or I bring you to him so he can do it himself."\n\n[[You take a deep breath, the warm sunshine on your arms keeps you relaxed|Relaxed]]
By the time the target wakes up, you’ve dragged him upstairs to the kitchen. The window is open and a cool breeze swirls periodically through the room. The smell of coffee and stale bread drifts from the bench, and the fridge gently hums behind you. \n\nThe look on the target’s still bloodied face is priceless when he realises his wrists and ankles are tied to his chair. You sit at the table opposite him, all cleaned up, finishing the last bite of a ham and cheese sandwich, his gun placed just next to your plate.\n\nYou lean back and put your feet up on the corner of the table. His face swells with anger. “What?” you ask, “This isn’t your house either.” \n\nYou wait for him to respond but he says nothing. You glance at your watch – two in the afternoon, better get him talking. He looks at the gun and the plate, and lets out a sigh of defeat. \n\n[[“You hungry? Want a sandwich?"|Sandwich]]\n\n[[“Thanks for the gun, I forgot to bring mine”|Mine]]\n
The target freezes when he feels the cold blade at his neck. For a moment you both stay completely silent. You ponder the next step, he probably does the same.\n\n"Get it over with then!" he says.\n\nYou go to slice, but you stop. You need to find out more. "No," you say, "there's still more fun to be had."\n\nYou smack the handle of the knife into the side of his head, knocking him unconscious. \n\n[[You need to find a rope|Have]]
“You alone?” the target asks you. His clothes are covered in mud. God he stinks. \n\n“Yep. Just me." You smile.\n\n“How much on my head?”\n\n“Five hundred thousand alive.”\n\nHe seems taken aback, and understandably so. It's a lot of money for one normal guy. "And what? You think I'm just gonna come along nicely?"\n\n"Would make things a whole lot easier for me."\n\nHe cocks the pistol and points it right between your eyes. You tense up, every muscle ready to react. You zero in on his trigger finger, if you see it move early enough you could dodge the bullet. Literally. Just one chance. You hold your breath. \n\nHe waits. You wait. It's a matter of milliseconds. \n\n[[Now|Now]]
Felix keeps in front of you as you walk the fifty yards from the southern corner of the barn. In one hand you keep the pistol trained on his back, in the other hand you carry a shovel. Felix's hands remain bound.\n\nThe afternoon sun is still hot enough to make you sweat slightly, but you keep your coat on. Felix doesn't seem bothered by the heat as he walks quickly, eagerly, to the spot he thinks the money is. \n\nFlies buzz intrusivley around the both of you - the only sound you can hear beside your own footsteps. Even the breeze has stopped. Green fields stretch out all around you, the big red barn and the old brown house being the only landmarks you can make out clearly.\n\nFelix repeatedly looks over to the barn's long shadow. Somehow that is helping him work out the location of the chest, but it doesn't make sense to you. Annie must have gone into a lot of detail about this money.\n\n"About here." Felix says, stopping, turning to face you.\n\n[["How can you be sure?"|Sure]]\n\n[[You toss him the shovel|Shovel]]
Felix fires several shots but you're too quick. You roll, stand, aim, fire. The bullet hits the lid of the chest, slamming it back down. Felix fires another bullet, blowing up the soil by your feet. He begins to run to your right, you fire, the bullet whizzing past his back. You pause, adjust your aim, and fire again. This time the bullet flies right into his leg. \n\nHe trips and crashes to the ground, sliding forward with the momentum. You fire again, hitting him in the back. Blood spurts out of the wound. You run towards him, kicking the gun from his hand before he can shoot again. \n\nHe rolls onto his back, groaning, trying to blink the dirt from his eyes. You stand over him, thinking. He's too much trouble. He murdered innocent women. He's a fucking arsehole.\n\nYou empty the rest of your bullets into his chest, nearly ripping him apart. The sound of each shot fills you with happiness. He deserves this death ten times over...\n\nYou holster the gun and stretch the tension out of your muscles. A hard day's work, finally over.\n\n[[You start walking back to your truck|Truck]]
